We are the lions of the 21st century. We own our means of engagement, participation, or involvement in a public or private enterprise. Communism, socialism and capitalism have lost their significance in the 21st century. We need to rethink social and economic justice to reflect this paradigm shift.

⁣“Marie-Louise" fut le premier tube international des studios Ngoma en 1948. C'était une simple chanson d'amour, chantée pour la sœur de son ami et collaborateur musical, le guitariste Henri Bowane. C'était un style musical légèrement différent de ses enregistrements précédents et la chanson lui apporta à la fois un grand succès et de gros problèmes, tout cela en raison de sa beauté musicale, que le public kinois trouvait absolument irrésistible. « Marie Louise » a défendu une nouvelle ère dans la musique congolaise, où les gens dansaient différemment d'avant, où contrairement aux anciennes danses sociales, les hommes et les femmes dansaient désormais en couple. Dans cette nouvelle danse sociale connue sous le nom de « rumba », les femmes balançaient leurs hanches de manière majestueuse et sensuelle, ce qui posait de gros problèmes à Wendo.

La chanson est devenue un succès dans toute l’Afrique de l’Ouest. Ce succès a entraîné des ennuis : la chanson avait des pouvoirs « sataniques » qui lui étaient attribués par les chefs religieux catholiques. Des histoires de l’époque affirmaient même que la chanson, si elle était jouée à minuit, pouvait ressusciter les morts. La fureur a chassé Wendo de Kinshasa et a abouti à un bref emprisonnement par les autorités belges à Stanleyville et à son excommunication de l'Église catholique.

⁣Proponents of legalized prostitution argue that legalization will increase the health and safety of sex workers and their clients. Speaking of sex work and the law, it is important to note that there are actually four different models for this that exist in the modern world: (1) completely illegal, (2) legal and government-regulated, (3) partial decriminalization, and (4) full decriminalization. In the illegal model, any offer, exchange, or agreement to trade sexual services for money is considered prostitution, regardless of whether a service is actually provided. In this case, the sex worker, the client, and anyone who facilitates the sale can be prosecuted for criminal activity. In contrast, in the legal and regulated model, the government determines which activities are legal and establishes parameters for selling sex, which may require formally registering as a sex worker and paying taxes on earnings; sex work that takes place outside of these parameters is illegal. Next, partial decriminalization (sometimes referred to as the “Nordic model”) means that selling sex is not a crime, but buying it is. The penalties are shifted entirely to the buyers in order to deter would-be purchasers, while also protecting workers. Finally, full decriminalization involves removing criminal penalties for sex workers and buyers alike. This is different from the legal approach mentioned above in that it does not set parameters or regulations for sex work; rather, it creates an open market.
